Basic insurance
Insurance is a contract that protects you financially in the event of unforeseen events. You pay regular, small amounts (known as premiums) and in return, if an accident or damage occurs , the insurance company covers the costs. In Poland, some insurances are compulsory and others are voluntary, but they are worth having.

Third party liability insurance for a car (obligatory)
This is the most important and only compulsory insurance for every motor vehicle owner in Poland. Third party liability (OC) insurance protects you from the financial consequences if you cause an accident or collision. This means that the insurance company will pay compensation to the injured party and you will not have to cover the cost of repairing their car, medical treatment or other losses out of your own pocket. There are very high financial penalties for not having valid third party insurance.
Dwelling/home insurance (Voluntary)
This insurance protects your property, i.e. what is valuable to you. It covers damage that may arise from fire, flooding, strong winds or burglary and theft. It is worth having this insurance, especially if you live in a rented flat, as it protects your belongings. A landlord usually has their own insurance, but this does not protect your possessions.

Life insurance (Voluntary)
Life insurance provides financial support for your family or those you designate in the event of your death. It is particularly important if you have a family that is financially dependent on you. The money from the insurance will help them during a difficult time, such as paying off a loan or maintaining daily life.
Travel insurance (Voluntary)
Planning to travel abroad? Travel insurance is highly recommended. It protects you against unforeseen medical, hospitalisation or medical transport costs, which can be very high abroad. It also usually covers luggage insurance and other situations that may arise during your trip.
